A Mirror Shattered #171, 172 - Quick break on duty...

ON: Hannah walked purposefully down the corridors. Before she went back on duty, there was someone she needed to find. She smiled as she spotted him up ahead. "Rylaar!" She called.

He turned and whipped around, blinking as he saw Hannah. He visibly relaxed and smiled at her.

"I'm glad you'rrrrrrre doing betterrrrrrr Hannah." He said with a nod.

Hannah ran up to him, and gave him a big hug. "Thank you!"

He hugged her in return and held her gently in his arms.

"You'rrrrrrrre welcome..... but uh.. forrrrr what?" He asked with his gentle smile.

Hannah stepped back. "For saving my life, not once but twice, dummy." She punched him jokingly on the arm.

"Ohhhh... well you'rrrrre morrrrrre than welcome." He said with a small smile and if there wasn't fur on his cheeks he would be blushing.

"I mean it, Rylaar - if you hadn't been there..." Hannah shuddered, as she thought. "How can I make it up to you?

"Ssssstaying alive comesssss to mind." He said with a smile as he placed a friendly hand on her shoulder.

"No, seriously." Hannah said. "Can I cook you dinner or something?"

He chuckled.

"All rrrrrrright. Ssssssometime you can cook me a dinnerrrrrr." He said with a shake of his head as he stretched a bit. His back still hurt from time to time.

"Are you ok?" Hannah said, concerned.

"Well my back hurrrrrrtsssss a bit. I apparrrrrently caught ssssssome sssssshrrrrrrapnel in my back when that consssssole exxxxploded." He said with a nod.

"Oh my goodness! Are you ok?" Hannah said, concerned.

I'm fine... I losssssst ssssssome blood, but the Doctorrrrrr wassssss able to patch me up asssss good asssss new." He said with a gentle smile.

"Oh Rylaar, I'm so sorry." Hannah said, feeling very guilty.

"Why? I'm fine..." He said with a smile, squeezing her shoulder softly to let her know it was ok.

"I guess." Hannah shrugged, still feeling guilty. "What's going on, Rylaar? The whole crew's on edge, and I've heard rumours of somebody new onboard."

"I don't know... I hear we picked up sssssome fighterrrrr pilot frrrrrrom thissss univerrrrrsssse. Each day we spend out herrrrrre it makesssss me think we'll neverrrrr get home." He said softly as he let his hand down off of her shoulder.

"I'm sure we will." Hannah said, smiling confidently. "We're far too pretty to be lost forever."

"Well maybe you arrrrrrre." He chuckled with a wink as he continued on his walk, hoping she'd fall in step with him as he beckoned to her to walk with him.

"You're not so bad looking yourself." Hannah smiled, walking alongside him. "Where are you headed?"

"Prrrrrrobably back to my quarrrrrrterrrrrrsssss to grrrrrab a sssssnack." He said with a nod, ignoring the compliment that she had given him.

"Mind if I join you? I'm not due back on-duty till change of shift in 40 minutes."

"I don't mind." He said with a shrug as they stepped into a turbolift and he said the deck number for his quarters.

"So did you get that whole assault thing cleared up?" Hannah asked, making small talk, wincing as she did so. Bringing up a past charge probably wasn't the best of ideas.

"Yessss. I wasssss punissssshed, then sssssent forrrrr houssssse arrrressssst while the counssssselor psssssychoanalyzed me. They of courrrrrssssse found nothing wrrrrrong, and when we enterrrrrred thisssss univerrrrrssssse Caelan sssssset me frrrrrree." He said with a nod.

"Good to see sane heads prevailed." Hannah smiled. "What do you make of the counsellor? He seems nice."

"He'sssss a verrrrry prrrrrofesssional young man who hasssss a good head on hisssss ssssshoulderrrrrs... Hell of a chessssss playerrrrrr." He nodded.

"You play chess?" Hannah said, intrigued.

"Yesssss. Both two and thrrrrrree dimensssssional." He said with a nod.

"I've never quite found the time to learn, myself." Hannah said wistfully. "Is it difficult?"

"Not at all... I'm ssssssurrrrrprrrrrrissssed a tactical officcccerrrrrr wouldn't know how to play Chessss." He sai with a nod.

Hannah shrugged. "It just never quite took my fancy. So what else do you do to keep yourself so fit?"

"A lot of thingsssss. Worrrrrking out in the holodeck... sssssaving damssssselssss in disssstresss." He said with a smile, winking at Hannah as he unlocked his quarters an stepped inside.

"Sounds like quite a workout." Hannah grinned back as they entered.

"It issssss..." He said and smiled at her, ordering something safe like chicken soup for her rather than her new allergy of gagh.

"Thanks." Hannah said, as she took the bowl. "Now, promise me that this isn't going to explode me like the last dish you offered me."

It'sssss chicken sssssoup. I'm sssssorrrrrrry about the gagh..." He said, looking down in embarrassment as he ordered himself a standard protein meal from the Starfleet ration database and decided to wash it down with some root beer.

"I'm kidding." Hannah smiled, as she tucked into the soup. "So I was meaning to ask you - is there a mirror Rylaar about? What's he like?"

"I don't know. I haven't looked." He said honestly as he sipped his root beer.

"You should. It makes an interesting way to pass the time." Hannah slurped her soup, and then looked up, embarrassed.

"Well I don't know if I want to ssssssee a mirrrrrorrrrr image of mysssssself." He said with a smile at her as he chewed some of his ration.

"I dunno - it could be quite exciting." She smiled. "He could be some dashing pirate captain, or a hero, or anyone."

"He could be a wife beating pimp, a drrrrrrug dealerrrrr..." He said softly.

"That's true." Hannah said, glumly. "I'd prefer to look on the bright side though."

"I find that the brrrrright ssssside issss often the heading of an oncoming ssssshuttlecrrrrraft." He sai with a nod. said*

"So pessimistic." Hannah sighed. "Well, I gotta be heading, Ry. I'll catch you later."

"All rrrrrright I have to get back to patrrrrol." He said with a nod.

"See you around." Hannah grinned.
