A Mirror Shattered #22 "Did I break your concentration?"

<USS Pegasus, Holodeck two>

Melina looked aroud the planet of Gamma Indri IV she'd enjoyed the talk with Ryylar but she was rather set to thinking about things. The XO, she could not make out at all, humans where strange very much so perhaps Ryylar would help her approch the XO about her personal matters. Melina waited as the early dawn came up slowly over the Galtern mountain range in the far west. It was here science left her and all the remained was duty. She programmed the holodeck recreation as close as she remembered. Far to the west the Cardassian outposts where amasing large numbers of troops. Soon enough they would come to the large valley where the Star Hammer had left all the Starfleet troops. The troop ship had left and returned to the USS MacPherson. Melina shifted her blance, and looked down to the phaser rifle in her right hand, behind her in their scabbered where two razor sharpe blades. She knew somewhere to the east of the formation of the three thosuand troopers was a small colum of Cardassian troops. Melina breathed out slowly and sang gently a song she remembered that the group had sung at the time. It had been an old song of Earth, she knew it but didn't really fully understand it. The group sang in the valley Melina watched as Lt Harson winked to her. He' would never see another sun rise.

Here's forty shillings on the drum For those who'll volunteer to come To 'list and fight the foe today. Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. When duty calls me I must go To stand and face another foe. But part of me will always stray Over the hills and far away.

If I should fall to rise no more, As many comrades did before, Then ask the fifes and drums to play. Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main. Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain. King George commands and we obey. Over the hills and far away. When duty calls me I must go To stand and face another foe. But part of me will always stray Over the hills and far away.

Then fall in lads behind the drum, With colours blazing like the sun. Along the road to come-what may. Over the hills and far away.

Suddenly away to the right of the large force came a trickle of Cardassian's the trickle soon became a large torrent.

"Here they come, hold your fire. Wait let them get closer...now open fire!" excliamed Harson.

Melina depressed the trigger of the phaser rifle, the beam lept from the pre-fire chamber like molten iron. It took down the first few Cardassian's however they kept coming. The front line opened fire as one and cut down the first ranks of Cardassians. As the lines became tanggled Harson looked around the Cardies where starting to take up postions on the edges of the valley wall. Things where not going all the waytowards an easy victory for Starfleet. Melina tossed the phaser rifle up on end and grabbed the barrle, she locked it into a lethal over load. Taking the rilfe she threw it as hard and as far as she could. It fell at the feet of some Gul and promptly exploded killing him and many the troopers around him.

"Forget the rifles go hand to hand!" exclaimed Harson.

Melina grabbed the swords from her back and started hacking into whatever Casrdassian was nearest, from the coner of her eye she spotted Harson go down under a large pile of Caardassian's and Starfleet troops. She snarled softly and tried to make the fight get closer to Harson, her blades blazed in the early moring sunlight as bllod spurted from severed limbs and other injuries. Melina's eyes took on a feral like gleam as she went onto auto pilot. She continued her work and hacked down anyone that wasn't in a Starfleet uniform. The Cardassians started retreating and Melina went after thoes who where foolish enough not to keep up with the main group. She stopped on the brow of the valley wall and put her head back and let out a scream of rage. She was covered from head to toe in patches of Cardassian blood.

The Caitian plopped down her eyes returning to normall as the simulation was suddenly halted by the computer. Melina sighed and looked around and blushed softly. Her clan suffred from a very rare condtion that affect them and one in every ten thousand Caitians. In her clan it was called the Bloodwrath it was very dangerous to get in the way of such a victim as they would just about kill anything in their sight. For some the wrath was much more stonger than Melina's, even in the full throws of the wrath she would know who was friend and foe.

"Computer exit" Melina commented.

The door to the holodeck hissed open and she looked around, old friends where gone, some to other ships and others to whatever eternal reward they believed in. Melina slipped the honor blades back into their scabbard, she tried to smile but it just wouldn't come.

"What hell is a shilling anyway?" she asked no one.
