Reflections # 80 - "BACKPOST: A Very Pleasant Evening"

OOC: takes place previous to 64-65

ON:

<<Starbase 47, Quarters>>

Jesse trotted along the corridors on the way towards Hannah's temporary quarters. It was just a few minutes before their date and he was on his way to pick her up. He chuckled as he adjusted his collar one last time and took a deep breath, tapping the chime.

The door opened, and Hannah stood there, looking a heck of a lot better than the last time he had seen her. She was wearing a form-fitting black dress that shimmered in the lights and went all the way down to her feet. It showed off her curves very nicely, and was daringly low cut. Her hair was elaborately coiffured, and her make-up was perfect. She had been working on her appearance almost since she had last seen Jesse, and it showed.

"Hey there." She smiled.

He smiled, dressed in his best dress whites, sporting his pips on his collar with pride as he looked at her. "Well hello there Lieutenant. You're looking quite beautiful tonight." Jesse said.

Hannah smiled. "You look quite dashing yourself, Commander." She smiled. "So, where are we going for dinner? Somewhere ludicrously expensive, I trust."

"Well I don't know about that, but we're definitely not eating at the replimat." He chuckled, offering her his arm.

Hannah smiled. "One moment, Sir - haven't you brought the lady any presents?"

Jesse grimaced. "They're waiting at our table." He said with a confident nod, his mind racing as too what he should call ahead for.

Hannah smiled. "Well then, shall we?" She took his arm, and they started down the hallway, turning a couple of heads as they did so.

He nodded and smiled a bit, walking with her.

"So, how's the Endinburgh?" Hannah asked, making light conversation.

"She's a good ship, her Captain isn't too bad. Nice guy." He nodded.

"Oh yes?" Hannah said, smiling. "Are you at 47 a lot, then?"

"We're dispatched to the region. So we stop through quite often. What about you?" He asked her.

"Well, word is that I might be here quite a lot in the future." Hannah said, smiling mysteriously.

"Oh? I thought your ship was being decommed." He said.

"The Pegasus is." Hannah said, trying to maintain her mystery allure.

"So you're being reassigned to this sector on another ship?" He asked her.

"Something like that." Hannah said, evading the question. "So how long have you been on the Edinburgh?" She smoothly changed the subject.

"Oh not long. After the war made the refits on Excelsior class ships necessary, I was assigned to the Edinburgh." He said.

"How are you liking it so far?"

"She's as good a ship as any in the fleet, probably better than some of the bulky Galaxy and Nebula class ships. Much more manueverable." Jesse said as they made it to the restaurant.

"Oh Jesse..." Hannah said, in delight, as they entered the restaurant. It was incredibly elegant, and even the appetizers looked liked they would cost a year's salary. Everyone was beautiful, and impeccably dressed. There was a string quartet providing music, and the decor was stunning. Off to one side, elegant couples danced smoothly. "You earned serious brownie points taking me here, boyo."

"Well I hope I earn more than just brownie points." He chuckled as the band began a waltz and he stood from his chair. "May I have this dance?" He asked with a smile.

"Cheeky..." Hannah giggled. "Of course." She answered his question, and they started to dance, the two of them in perfect rhythm. "So what exactly were you hoping to earn, Sir?"

He smiled and danced around the floor with her. "Hmmmmm well we'll just see how well the night goes as to what I earn now won't we?" He grinned as they floated across the dance floor.

"So where did you learn to dance so well?" Hannah said, as he spun her around.

"Command Officer's Academy Extension. Diplomacy 213: Entertaining Federation and Alien Ambassadors." He told her as they danced.

"Are you serious?" Hannah laughed.

"What? You think Ambassadors and Heads of State just sit around and talk over contracts and diplomatic treaties to get into the Federation? No no no, we wine and dine them first." He chuckled.

"Well, Sir - you're certainly impressing me thus far." Hannah smiled. "I think you might just get the deal you're looking for."

"Well that's a good thing now isn't it?" Jesse smiled as their dance ended and he smiled at her.

Hannah kissed him on the cheek. "I'm going to powder my nose, Jesse. Go ahead and order the gifts you forgot to get me." She smiled cheekily.

He blinked and then blushed, but smiled meekly in return, taking the opportunity to do just that, tapping his comm badge to get in touch with the Edinburgh's Chief Engineer to get a couple of gifts for Hannah.

Hannah returned a few minutes later, to find the food they had ordered awaiting them.

She sat down, eyeing the food eagerly.

He smiled as she returned at the same time the first gift was brought over to their table in the form of a violinist coming to serenade them while they ate.

"So far so good..." Hannah smiled.

He smiled and they set to eating the fine meal that was prepared before them.

"So, what have you been doing with yourself since the academy." Hannah asked. <Darn, but he's handsome!>

"Fighting a War." He joked somberly with a slightly sad smile.

"You were heavily involved?" Hannah said carefully, not wanting to upset him.

"Yes." He said simply with a nod. "We were part of the Tenth Fleet, stationed right along the border with Cardassia." He said.

"Wow." Hannah said. "Pretty tough assignment."

"Seventy Five percent of the people who went in there never came out." He said to her softly.

"Wow." Hannah said, unsure of how to respond. <Way to kill the mood...>

"It was a rough time." He said softly, wishing she hadn't brought that up.

<Please! Change the subject!> Hannah thought desperately.

"So why hasn't a pretty girl like you settled down yet?" He asked her, trying to get off the topic of the War.

Hannah grinned. "You know how it goes - never found the right guy, or I did, and then they found out who my Dad was..." She shrugged. <Should I tell him about Sulan?> She wondered.

"Ahh your father never bothered me. You can't be judged by your parents. Heck I'm living proof of that." He chuckled.

Hannah laughed. "How are they doing?"

"I'm not sure. I never talk to them. They've never forgiven me from joining 'The Military'." He said, rolling his eyes.

Hannah smiled. Jesse's parents were some of the biggest pacifists she'd ever met, and had been some of the most outspoken opposition to the Dominion War. Jesse's decision to join Starfleet had shocked and horrified them. "Yeah, I haven't spoken to my Dad since...y'know." She shrugged. <Is he checking out my cleavage? And if not, why not?>

"I know. I suppose we're both willing orphans then." He smiled, looking into her eyes.

She smiled, and layed her hand on the table, inviting him to take it. "Well, we've got that in common."

He took her hand and smiled, holding it in his own. "It seems we have that at least." He said and leaned across the table to press his lips gently to hers.

Hannah leened in, but then pulled back at the last moment. "Is this serious, Jesse, or is this going to be a little fun for you when you come back to port?"

He sat back at that and looked shocked that she would even ask him that. "You think I'd do all this 'just for a little fun'?" He asked her, slightly insulted.

"Jesse...I've gotta be sure, y'know?" She sighed. "I feel really strongly about you, and I don't want to get hurt."

"Hannah I've always liked you and cared about you. You know that." He said with a slightly exasperated look.

"I know." Hannah said. "Did I...did I just blow this?"

"Well the romantic mood is certainly just about gone." He sighed a bit.

"You want to go somewhere a little more romantic, then?" Hannah said, trying to making up for her mistake.

"What did you have in mind?" He asked her.

"I was thinking my quarters. I want to see if your dancing skill extends to other genres." Hannah smiled.

"Oh? Uh... Oh...." He said, his eyes widening. He wasn't naive, but that proposition had caught him off guard. He nodded to her just as a rather tired panting officer came over to him wearing a yellow uniform, Lieutenant's pips on his collar.

Hannah looked up in confusion at the newcomer, and noticed he was carrying an intricately wrapped box.

"And here's your second gift of the evening." Jesse said, nodding in thanks to the Lieutenant and giving him a wink as he took the box and handed it to Hannah.

<Nice timing.> Hannah smiled, as she opened the box.

Inside was a small golden necklace, quite elegant and fine, but nothing overly romantic.

Hannah smiled broadly. "It's beautiful. Will you help me put it on?" She asked.

Jesse nodded and stood, moving around behind her to place the necklace about her neck and clasped it.

Hannah looked up at him, inviting him to kiss her.

Jesse smiled and gently pressed his lips to hers in a kiss while he moved his hands around her waist.

Hannah smiled again. "Care to walk me home, Mr Walker?"

"I'd be delighted Miss O'Driscoll." He said with a smile, offering her his arm.

She stood, and they left the restaurant. The walk back seemed to go very quickly, almost as if they were in a hurry to get there or something. They reached the door, and Hannah turned to him and smiled. "So, I'll see you tomorrow then?"

"I'd like that." Jesse grinned as he took Hannah's hand in his and kissed the back of her hand.

Jesse smiled at her and then turned to make his way back to his quarters on the Edinburgh.

"Is that it?" Hannah said with a smile, as he started to leave. "You and I trade innuendos and implications all night, you stare at my breasts, I check out your butt, and you're not even going to come in?"

"Is that an invitation?" He grinned as he looked at her over his shoulder.

"What do you think?" She smiled invitingly.

She turned, and walked into the room, making sure she put an extra little wiggle into her butt just for him.

He turned with a broad grin and followed after her, moving quickly into her quarters.

As he entered, Hannah was nowhere to be seen. Smooth jazz music played in the background, and the lights were down low. Jesse felt a touch on his shoulder, and warm breath in his ear. "You like it?"

Jesse nodded. "I do Hannah..." He replied softly as he turned and wrapped his arms slowly around her waist.

"Care to dance?" Hannah said, starting to sway as she guided Walker's hand to the zip of her dress.

Jesse grinned in the low light and he ran his hand over her back to unzip her dress as he pressed his lips to hers.

Hannah let her dress drop to the floor, and kissed Jesse tenderly.

He kissed her back gently as they danced slowly towards Hannah's bed.
