A Mirror Shattered #132, 133 - Two in one day

ON: <<USS Pegasus, Corridor outside of O'Driscoll's office>>

Ryylar made his way after his conversation with Melina over to Hannah's office, tapping the chime to announce his presence outside of her door.

"Come in." Hannah said, distractedly.

Ryylar walked in and held his hands behind his back. He noticed her stil in the white t shirt from earlier when they had worked out.

"I'm glad to sssssssee you'rrrrrrre sssssssstill ok." He said with a nod.

"Yeah - the walk over here was a tough one." Hannah said, sarcastically. "I'll swear that turbolift had it in for me."

He groaned and rolled his eyes, standing back to lean on the wall.

"What'ssssss that you'rrrrrrrre ssssssso intently rrrrrrreading?" He asked her.

"Betrayed by Compassion - The Life and Death of Rear Admiral O'Driscoll." Hannah read. "It seems to be the biography of this universe's version of my father."

"Biogrrrrrraphy? Orrrrrr Auto-biogrrrrrraphy?" He asked her, cocking an eyebrow.

"Biography - Judging by the title, he's going to die at the end." Hannah said, sadly. " A shame - he seems to be very different to the Andrew O'Driscoll I knew. Or rather, the one I never knew."

"I sssssssee. Well if it makessssss you feel betterrrrrrrr I'm an orrrrrrrphan in ssssssssome way assssss well." He said, patting her back as he walked over to the viewport in her office and his nose picked up a scent. Something was burning, but he brushed it out of his mind.

"I still haven't found out who I am in this world. In a way, I don't really want to know - maybe ignorance is bliss." She yawned. "Man, I need a shower. Do I smell that bad, Rylaar?"

"Hmmm? No, you don't ssssssmell bad." He said, furrowing his brow as the burning smell got a bit stronger.

"Aw, you're a cutie." She smiled. "Get this, Ry - O'Driscoll...this universe's I mean is called 'this generation's greatest tactical mind. He seems to have almost singlehandedly won the war about three years ago."

"Forrrrrr a man who won the warrrrrr, he obvioussssssly did a crrrrrraptacularrrrrrr job of doing it ssssssssinccccccce the Federrrrrrration issssss losssssing." He said with a snort as he noticed the smell grow in intensity even more.

"Yeah...I'm guessing he died before he could finish the job." Hannah said, frowning. "I wonder how..." She stopped, and looked solidly at Rylaar. "Listen, Ry, I know we're friends, but you can tell me to my face that I smell. You don't have to keep making faces behind my back."

"It issssssn't you.... ssssssomething issss...." He said, realizing where it was coming from now as he saw a small tendril of smoke rise from her computer console.

"LOOK OUT!" He said, catching her in a flying tackle. His feline reflexes helping him spring onto her side and knocking off of her chair to the floor beneath him as he covered her with his body. The computer console she had been reading blasted apart, exploding in the air above them, shrapnel from the screen scratching and cutting deep into the Caitian's back.

Hannah yelled in shock as he grabbed her, and she balle instinctinvely as they hit the ground. She felt the impact of the blast hitting Rylaar's body as he covered her.

A few tense moments went by and he waited for more, his ears sensitive as he felt the pain in his back and grunted a bit.

"Arrrrrrrre you all rrrrrrrright Hannah?" He asked her in a concerned tone.

"I'm fine." Hannah said tersely. "Stupid terminal. I could have died!" She rolled out from underneath Rylaar. "Thanks, Ry." she smiled. "Engineering are going to get an earbashing for that one, I tell you."

He stood and nodded, reaching down to help her back up to her feet.

"Come on, obvioussssssly yourrrrrrr norrrrrrmal rrrrrrroutine issssssn't sssssssafe forrrrrrrr you." He said with a nod.

"What do you mean?" Hannah said. "You don't think...oh come on - that was just a faulty terminal. Nothing more sinister than that."

"Assssss a rrrrrrrule on ssssssssstarrrrrrrsssshipssssss, terrrrrrminalsssss only exxxplode underrrrrrr firrrrrrrre orrrrrrr when they've been ssssssabotaged." He said firmly, helping her to her feet, his hand holding her forearm.

Hannah accepted his help. "What do you suggest then, Rylaar? If they've got to my office, it's probably a pretty safe bet to say that they've got to my quarters, as well."

"We'll find you new quarrrrrrterrrrrrrsssss temporrrrrarrrrrily, and then inforrrrrrrm Commanderrrrrr Petrrrrrova about the ssssssituation." He said with a nod.

"Do we have to get the Ice...I mean Commander Petrova involved?" <Stupid! Word is, he and the Ice Maiden are involved, numbnuts!>

He looked hard at her but sighed a bit and nodded.

"If thissssss hadn't happened, I'd sssssssay we could keep thissssss quiet, but now it'ssssss obviousssssssly a thrrrrrrreat to yourrrrrrr life. I think ourrrrrr only alterrrrrrnative isssss to get herrrrrr involved." He said with a nod.

"Well, at least let me get changed, first." Hannah said, with a weak smile on her face.

"All rrrrrrright." He said with a nod, turning to walk out and leave her in the privacy of her office to get changed.

Hannah emerged a few moments later, dressed in a fresh duty uniform. "Well then, shall we?" She asked jauntily.

"Rrrrrrready to sssssse Commanderrrrrr Petrrrrrrova?" He asked her, looking her over with a satisfactory nod.

"Not in the slightest." Hannah said. "But do I have a choice?"

Ryylar shrugged. She could always order him otherwise as she outranked him quite a bit, but he wasn't going to tell her that.

"Well then." Hannah said, extending her arm for Rylaar to take. "Would you care to escort me, Sir?" She smiled, trying to stay upbeat. <Somebody just tried to kill me. Somebody just tried to kill me. Somebody just tried to KILL ME!>

He smiled a bit and took her arm.

"Let'ssss be on ourrrrrr way." He said with a nod, tapping a console on the wall, asking the computer to display the location of Commander Petrova. The computer beeped and intoned that Commander Petrova could not be found. Damn scanners... playing up again...

"Hmm...if someone is out to get me, it might not be the best idea to wander the halls looking for Commander Petrova." Hannah mused.

"You know... I'd have to agrrrrrree... The computerrrrrr wouldn't give me yourrrrrr location at all earrrrrrlierrrrr." He said with a nod.

"That's not very encouraging." Hannah said. "I need a place to lay low for a while."

"Well wherrrrrre would you ssssssuggesssst?" He asked her.

Hannah frowned. "Well, if it's not too much of an imposition, I'd suggest your quarters. Up until this morning, I barely knew you, and there's no way this Angela chick could trap every room. I'd guess your room would be safe."

He was afraid she'd say that.

"All rrrrrright, but if you don't mind, could you take the couch?" He asked her, wincing as he was almost afraid of that answer.

"Of course." Hannah said, confused. "It's cheeky enough using your quarters, I'd never presume to use your bed as well."

"Thankssssss. Commanderrrrrr Petrrrrrrova would kill me..." He said with a sigh as he walked with her to a turbolift, taking it down to his quarters.

"She doesn't approve of people borrowing your bed?"

"That'sssss herrrrrsssss and my bed." He said with a nod as the lift doors opened and he watched the corridor sharply, coming to his quarters as he tapped the entry pad with his code to open the door.

"I can see how that might be a problem." Hannah smiled, but as she stepped into the room, her eyes were scanning for traps or hidden assailants.

"Welcome to yourrrrrr home away frrrrrrrom home. Make yourrrrrrsssssself comforrrrrrrtable." He said, walking over to his closet and snagging an extra pillow and set of blankets for her for the couch.

"Thanks." She smiled. "I mean it, Ry - you've been very kind. If there's any way I can make it up to you, just say."

"Jussssst ssssstick arrrrrround and be a frrrrrrriend and I'll be happy... Thosssssse ssssseem to be in ssssssshorrrrrrt ssssssupply." he said, making up the couch for her as a bed.

"So it would seem." Hannah said. "Could I use your terminal? I might as well try and get some work done."

"It might not be the besssssst idea... if Angela issssss trrrrrrracking you, then ssssshe'd ssssssee you log in frrrrrrom my quarrrrrrterrrrrrsssss." He said with a suggestion.

"Don't worry about it, Ry - I know a trick or two for anonymous log- ins." She smiled. "Besides, I reprogrammed the computer in my office to make it look as if i'm in there for the next eight hours. It shouldn't be a problem."

"You mean the one that jusssssst exxxxxxploded?" He asked her with a cocked eyebrow.

"Nah, the backup." She grinned. "First rule of Security, Ry - always have a backup of everything."

"All rrrrrright... if you'rrrrrre ssssssurrre." He said with a nod, walking over to his replicator as he ordered some food.

"Carrrrrre forrrrr dinnerrrr?" He asked her.

"Please." Hannah said. "Go ahead and surprise me."

"Ssssssurrrrprrrrrrissssse you eh?" He asked with a chuckle.

"Go for it." She grinned.

He smiled and tapped in an order of gagh, bringing it over to her and setting it down before her as the gagh worms began crawling around.

Hannah looked him in the face. "Is that a challenge?"

"Arrrrre you ssssssurrrrrprrrrrrrisssssed?" He chuckled and asked her.

Hannah grinned and, supressing her gag reflex, picked up one of the worms, and dropped it into her mouth. "Mmmm...slimy, yet satisfying." She grinned at him. But her smile faded as she felt a heat rising in her throat. She felt it begin to close up, and choked out a cry. "Help..." She began to choke, grabbing at her throat, and kicked out with her legs, pushing over her chair. She writhed on the floor, unable to breathe.

He smiled a bit at first and quickly moved behind her, wrapping his arms around her wasit just below her ribs as he pushed his fists together up against her ribs, shoving his hands up to perform the heimlich maneuver.

"Not...choking..." Hannah coughed. "Poison..."

"Poissssson?" He opened his eyes wider and tapped his comm badge.

=/\= RRRRRYYLARRRRR TO SSSSSICKBAY, MEDICAL EMERRRRRRRGENCCCCCCY. TWO TO BEAM DIRRRRRRECTLY TO SSSSSICKBAY. =/\= He barked as he slapped his comm badge.

Hannah's eyes rolled back in her head, and she blacked out.

As they faded into blue transporter light and reappeared in Sickbay, Ryylar shouted for help, holding a limp Hannah O'Driscoll in his arms.
