To celebrate the fact that this crew has been together for a year (first on the USS Pegasus and now on Starbase 47) I thought we could take the opportunity to get to know the people behind the characters a bit and see what makes them tick! I hope you enjoyed these interviews as much as I have!
Some Data
Name: Sandy Radford
Age (and/or Date of birth?): 20, 6th March, 1986
Country of residence: currently USA, normally UK
[CO] Ok, is there anything you think I forgot to ask in this section?
[Sandy] don't think so
[CO] Good, with that covered we'll carry on. How have you been playing ST PBEM RPGs and where did you start?
[Sandy] Two and a half years I started on what was then the USS Scorpion, and is now the USS Camelot
[CO] Yeah you were there before me, I remember, what position did you occupy on the Scorpion and why did you pick that position?
[Sandy] I was the Assistant Chief Tactical Officer. I picked it because you'd got the Chief Tac job the day before :P
[CO] LOL so You weren't there before me? odd... I thought you were... The way I remember it though is that it was Chief Sec/Tac and it split up because of you... after three months or so... So having been here for two and a half years, you can say you're pretty experienced. What do you like best about simming in general? And what about the Pegasus/Ronin in particular?
[Sandy] The thing i like most is Joint Posting. That, for me, is the most fun working together with others to create realistic relationships. That's what I get a buzz from I really enjoy the Pegasus/Ronin because of the people. I was instantly welcomed in, and developed a good relationship outside of simming with most of the crew.
[CO] That's always good to hear, even if everybody's saying it. It must mean I have done something right and picked the right people somehow :P. Talking about posts, probably Joint Posts in particular. Is there any moment with Hannah that really stuck with you? and what about other character's moments, is there any real memorable one there?
[Sandy] hmm… wow, tricky
[CO] Indeed it is, take your time :D:P
[Sandy] Ok. I think with Hannah, it's more the process I'm enjoying - seeing her grow and develop, and how she deals with challenges as for other memorable moments, i've loved some of Sulan's posts, and i really liked the post where left you...even though it made me sad :(
[CO] I noticed that the chemistry between yourself and Sulan's player is very good, I mean we can just pick that up from the post. I remember a certain hand on a certain but and other practical jokes, I just thought they were worth a mention. As for Jennifer leaving me, it left me with just that much more Character development... I hope I can do something with it 0_o. While we are on the subject though, sorta, if you would have to pick, what Quote do you think describes your character best (can be both IC and from real life)?
[Sandy] hmm… now i have to go and dig through archives, give me a sec
[CO] [a sec was given...] … [The seconds turned into minutes... the minutes into hours... the hours into days... after having asked this question Sandy a.k.a. Lieutenant O'Driscoll has disappeared without a trace...]
[Sandy] arrgh! Sorry - got sidetracked! Too many good posts!
[CO] It can also be another quote... from a politician or a good book or even lyrics from a song... or a one liner from a movie...
[Sandy] "If people reject me because I'm friends with someone they don't like, they probably ain't the kind of friends I want, anyhow." - Hannah to Sulan
[CO] Ohw that's a good one, and why did you pick that quote?
[Sandy] because i think it describes hannah very well - she doesn't care about how people feel about her, and yet she wants people to like her it's an interesting dichotomy
[CO] wow that last word sounded really intelligent... if I only knew what it meant...
[Sandy] I would have sounded even more intelligent if I'd spelt it right
[CO] ok moving on then, we'll just assume that the other people get it. What struck me most about your character that it's a very realistic person, it makes me wonder where you get your inspiration from.
[Sandy] People around me, mostly. A lot of people i know went into Hannah, especially my ex-flatmate, Ruth
[CO] A lot of people get their inspiration from real life, is simming also an outlet for you? An escape from everyday frustrations? Maybe some R&R, like some others would with reading a book?
[Sandy] I think definitely the last one it's also a way for me to keep up my writing and keep it fresh
[CO] Fresh and exciting I hope... as for excitement this little joy has come to an end, is there anything that you feel the readers of this interview Should really know?
[Sandy] not really except that statuatory maternity pay in britain is in a ridiculous state, and needs to be sorted out soon. And GO ILLINI! :P
[CO] Ok thank you for this interview Sandy, I hope you'll stay with us for a long time to come!
[Sandy] definitely
