Reflections #64, 65 - An Old Friend

ON: [Starbase 47, Moonstruck Café]

After her last experience on the starbase, Hannah had decided to switch cafés to catch up on the paperwork she needed to file after their last mission. She had changed into a comfy set of jeans, and was wearing a baggy top - she definitely needed to relax after the last couple of days.

She chewed on the end of a stylus, as she contemplated the data in front of her.

Jesse Walker moved through the crowd of people in the lounge and did a doubletake. The Starfleet Captain blinked several times at the woman sitting there chewing on the end of her stylus. "Hannah?" He asked her.

Hannah looked up in surprise. "Jesse?" She said, smiling broadly. "What the heck are you doing here?" She hadn't seen Jesse since the academy, when he'd been dating her roommate. He was one of the few people who hadn't immediately turned against her after her father's arrest. They hadn't really kept in contact since, though.

"Hey my ship just came into this starbase recently." Said Jesse as he sat down, red collar and all.

Hannah checked out his pips. "You made Commander? Well done! Which ship?"

"Executive Officer, USS Edinburgh. Excelsior class." He said proudly, puffing out his chest a bit.

"Nice." Hannah said. "Hey, are you still with Emma?"

His face fell a bit at the mention of his former wife. "Emma... died... she was killed during the war." He said softly.

"Oh...oh gosh." Hannah said, stricken. "I...I had no idea."

"It's all right Hannah, you couldn't have known... she died defending the ship after the Jem'Hadar boarded us. She managed to activate the Self Destruct and stayed with the Okinawa." Jesse said.

"I...I don't know what to say." Hannah said, quietly. Her and her roommate had never really got on well, but...she was dead. Wow.

"There isn't much to say. She was a brave woman and she died fulfilling her duty and saving the rest of us." Jesse said with a firm nod.

"She was pretty awesome." Hannah said. There was an awkward pause. "So, uh...you look good." Hannah said, wincing inwardly at the inanity of the comment.

"So do you... really good. You left the fleet?" Jesse commented.

"Really good?" Hannah scoffed. "Now I know you're lying. I'm a mess."

"Yeah well I've never been much of an eye for refinement. I happen to like a woman who can be messy and still look pretty." He chuckled.

Hannah laughed. "You flatter me, Sir. And to answer your previous question, I'm still with the fleet, just not in uniform. I'm on the Pegasus - Chief Tac. Or at least, I was...they're decomissioning the old girl."

"Really? Hmmm I don't suppose I could persuade you to come aboard the Edinburgh. We could use a good hand at Tactical." He said.

"Are you serious?" Hannah asked, incredulously. <Is he hitting on me? Nah...>

"Yeah I'm serious Hannah. Besides. I think it would be fun to have someone close that I can count on." He said, reaching over and placing a hand on hers.

Hannah looked down at their hands. "Jesse Walker, are you hitting on me?" She said, smiling.

"Are you going to bolt out of here at warp 9 if I am?" He grinned.

Maybe not at Warp Nine..." Hannah smiled, mysteriously.

"Well I've always been a gambling man. So yes, I am hitting on you." Jesse nodded.

Hannah blushed. "I don't know, Jesse...I haven't seen you in so long, and suddenly you're hitting on me?" She said, although not confrontationally.

"Well if you don't like being hit on I can stop." He chuckled.

"Now, I didn't say that." Hannah smiled. "But...why?" She asked, fishing for compliments.

"I've always thought you were pretty Hannah... and a fantastic friend to have around." He said with a smile

Hannah blushed. "Go on..."

"What more is there to say? I've always liked you Hannah, and I don't like the idea of losing touch with you again." He said.

"And maybe you like to get a little more 'in touch'?" Hannah said, cheekily.

"I think that'd be wonderful thank you for asking." Said Jesse with a grin.

"Well, Commander Walker." Hannah smiled. "How about you take me out to dinner tonight to a very expensive restaurant, show me an exceedingly good time, and maybe, just maybe, I'll let you have a little fun. How does that sound?"

"That sounds like I'll pick you up at 1930 and reserve a table now." Jesse grinned.

"Dress nice." Hannah said. "I'd hate to outshine my date."

"Oh I'll be there in my whites." He chuckled.

Hannah smiled. "Now, go make arrangements. I have work to do."

"Hey.... I'm the ranking officer here." Jesse joked.

"And I'm the girl." Hannah smiled. "So if you want to leave with a kiss for your troubles, you'd better shut up."

He chuckled. "All right all right you win..." He joked and took her hand, raising it up as he kissed the back of it. "I'll see you tonight at seven thirty." Jesse said, standing as he left.

Hannah waited until he was out of earshot, and let let her smile almost split her face. It was a shame Kitty had already left. This called for much ice-cream and giggling.
