Pandora's Box #10 - "Rock On!"

-={On}=- [Deck Five, Recreational Facilities, USS Pegasus]

Caelen wondered about the Recreational facilities a bit, he was curious as to how the Holodeck ended up. He finally found the entrance to the holodeck, like the rest of the vessel it was relatively small but it would do. He stepped inside and walked up to the console and looked at the data-chip he had picked up from his quarters. "Let's see how this old lady does" he smirked at himself as he inserted the chip into the console.

Slowly he walked to the center of the room and wandered around a bit, "Computer, activate program: Caelen one-seven Alpha"

The computer beeped confirming as it initiated the program from the chip "please select your weapon" it then asked before proceeding.

Caelen smirked at this, he had programmed that question in himself after he had bought the program from that merchant and it still made him laugh. "Indiana IS-100-BK `Power Series', Strat Style Solid Body" he simply stated putting out his hand to see the guitar materialize in his hands.

"Initializing program" the computer beeped before the entire room went black, no lights, no sound… just him and his guitar.

His gripped the neck of the black and white guitar and hit a simple accord with his plectrum, trying to get the feel back, it had been a long time. He changed his left hand and hit the snares again, it felt GOOD.

"Computer, play Run to the Hills, by Iron Maiden, album: Number of the Beast, according to specifications in program" only moments later the drums started with the rhythm. For about 10 seconds Caelen waited and then, in sync with the other guitars he started. The program had filtered out the vocals and lead guitars, as was specified.

"The White man came… across the sea… he brought us pain and misery… he killed our tribes he killed our creed…" a short intake of breath before continuing.

"We fought him hard we fought him well … Out on the plains we gave him hell … But many came too much for Cree … Oh will we ever be set free?"

Picking up the pace on his guitar as well as in the vocals he finished the first verse, building up to the chorus.

"Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes … Galloping hard on the plains … Chasing the redskins back to their holes … Fighting them at their own game … Murder for freedom the stab in the back … Women and children are cowards attack"

The volume of his voice struggling to top that of the band, and his own guitar.

A Short moment of taking in breath for the Chorus: "Run to the hills, run for your lives … Run to the hills, run for your lives!"

The music changed a bit again as the second verse `commenced'. "Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes … Galloping hard on the plains … Chasing the redskins back to their holes … Fighting them at their own game … Murder for freedom the stab in the back … Women and children are cowards attack" the last word was stretched out and almost shouted before he hit the guitars for another Chorus.

"Run to the hills, run for your lives … Run to the hills, run for your lives!" this he followed with a fast and loud solo on his guitar, letting himself entirely go into a solo that would appear to the untrained ear as somebody that was killing the someone with the snares.

Ending the solo he quickly reverted to the normal melody and pace of the song, immediately accompanied by a new set of lyrics, of the third verse. "Soldier blue in the barren wastes … Hunting and killing their game … Raping the women and wasting the men … The only good Indians are tame … Selling them whiskey and taking their gold … Enslaving the young and destroying the old!!!" again shouting before setting in the Chorus for the last time.

"Run to the hills, run for your lives … Run to the hills, run for your lives!" accompanied by guitars and drums Caelen repeated the chorus until the end of the song. He opened his eyes, while it didn't help because the room was still pitch black, he felt reborn, revitalized.

A heavy sigh as he looked around a bit, this dark room… it gave him peace. He grabbed some new accords and played a very short sequence of a Beethoven composition, only louder and more… rock like. He sighed again as he let go of the guitar, it now hung on his neck "Computer, end program" the lights flicked back on, the grit re- appeared and his guitar disappeared, he had work to do… he could spare these ten minutes but now they would probably be ready to leave.

"Computer, save program for later use, Caelen one-seven alpha" this way he didn't need to bring the chip every time he wanted to play a bit. He walked towards the exit but right before he stepped out of the holodeck he looked slightly over his shoulder "I'll be back…" he said to… seemingly no-one… almost in a whisper.

Duty called, Caelen walked in a fast fashion, to the turbo lift, he wanted to get this ship on the road and return to the holodeck later that day… he never knew it could feel so good after what had happened but the program remained what it was, the same rush, the same great feeling.
