Beyond the Myth With Ryylar

To celebrate the fact that this crew has been together for a year (first on the USS Pegasus and now on Starbase 47) I thought we could take the opportunity to get to know the people behind the characters a bit and see what makes them tick! I hope you enjoyed these interviews as much as I have!

Some Factual Data:
Name: Paul Copenhagen
Age (and/or date of birth): 24, November 10th 1982 (Yes I'm an old man)
Country: USA

The Interview:

[CO] anything else you think I missed?

[Paul] Yes, What is my quest and what is the capitol of Assyria ? My quest is the Holy Grail and the Capitol of Assyria is Ninevah, so can I cross now?

[CO] Not just yet, opposed to that Movie [those who don't know what this is about, go stand in a corner for an hour before watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail] I ask a bit more questions then three and your favorite colour is of no interest to us … Let's get to the actually questions now then... How long have you been doing Star Trek PBeM RPGs and Where did you start?

[Paul] For just about a year and a half now. I originally started here in Obsidian Fleet. My first application was submitted and approved to the USS Pioneer as their chief medical officer, but the simm never got off the ground. My first ACTIVE playing experience was the USS Tokyo as the Chief Engineer. I was ranked as an Ensign since I lacked experience.

[CO] and why did you pick the position as Chief Engineer as your first post?

[Paul] Well I've always loved Scotty as a character, and Miles O'Brien, so I chose to follow in their footsteps and join as a Chief Engineer. That's part of the reason I made my character Scottish

[CO] Fair enough, on to another question then, What do you like best about Simming in general and the Pegasus/Starbase Ronin in Particular?

[Paul] I enjoy roleplaying period. It's a great stress reliever and when I've got something weighing on my mind, I can usually take my mind off of it by writing a little bit. Starbase Ronin in particular is fun since I get to play Ryylar, the biggest cat on the ship. I joined as part of the Pegasus crew and it's been a whirlwind ever since. A lot of fun.

[CO] It's always good to hear that the crew is enjoying themselves, so tell me What was the most memorable moment for your character on either the Pegasus or Ronin? And for any of the other characters?

[Paul] OOooo memorable moment on the Pegasus? Yikes that's tough to choose. I'd have to say that the most memorable thing I've ever written my character in was Ryylar and Kristiana meeting her father during the "Blue Ball" shoreleave. As for other characters on the Peggie Sue as I called it? Kristiana's father committing suicide. That particularly got to me. I remember staring in stark disbelief at the screen thinking 'Dear God, Lert didn't just do that...'

[CO] You and me both, Paul, I can assure you. Things like that make you wonder where people get their inspiration from, what about you, where do you get your inspiration from?

[Paul] I'm a friggin cat! Seriously though, I think the challenge itself is an inspiration. I've never played a Caitian before the Pegasus and Ronin, most of my characters were rather plain humans. So Ryylar is unique in being my first character that wasn't a standard human. The fact I can explore a new race is inspiration enough.

[CO] Nothing in the real world gives you inspiration? Like music, good books or movies?

[Paul] They do off and on, but that kind of inspiration I tend to save for my own ship, since I draw long plotlines out of it. I save them for mission ideas. It's hard to draw inspiration from music and think like a Caitian.

[CO] If you say so, you're the specialist on this. Speaking about your Caitian character, is there a quote (Either from the sim or from 'the real world') that you think really describes (or fits) your character?

[Paul] Hmmmmm I never really thought about that. If I had to pick one quote, it would have to be from Star Wars. "Do or do not, there is no try..." I rarely if ever do things with Ryylar in a halfway nature. I usually either jump in or don't. The exception being Ryylar's rather neurotic affection with Hannah O'Driscoll. They seem to cause sparks near each other, but it never seems to really truly take off. Ryylar tends to remember his Russian Czarina and stays pretty faithful.

[CO] Don't we all have something with Hannah? To bad that she has something with that pesky Commander guy from the Edinbourgh now, right? Anyway, in all seriousness, is there anything that you feel is absolutely necessary to say to the people that will read this?

[Paul] Hmmm yeah there is. Play hard, write your heart, and above all, have fun. This is a great simm you've got John and I look forward to being a part of it for a good long time.

[CO] Thank you very much, Paul, and I hope you'll be with us for a long, Long time! It's great to have you here

[Paul] It's good to be here. Thanks John.
